The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, on
Tuesday said the Peoples Democratic Party and
President Goodluck Jonathan had failed to deliver on
promises made to Nigerians and as such, there was no
reason to trust them.
Fashola, who spoke during the All Progressives Congress
campaign rally in the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government
Area, held at the Ejigbo playing ground, added that the
President was worsening issues by bringing out false
claims as his achievements.
He said, "President Goodluck Jonathan said he
constructed 25,000 kilometres roads in the country.
Now, the distance from Lagos to London is just over
5,000km. What the claim by the President means is that
they have constructed a road from Lagos to London five
times. But the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that is 404km
and has not been done. So where did they see the
25,000km roads?
"On electricity, we pay 75 per cent more than we should
pay for power through self generation of electricity.
Contrary to their claim, the President and the PDP can't
give electricity."
The APC governorship candidate for the state, Mr.
Akinwunmi Ambode, however, assured residents of the
state of an improved security if elected into office.
Ambode, who spoke to a mammoth crowd that
included the youth, members of the Akinwunmi
Ambode Kommittee of Friends, the state party
Chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale, and a former member
of the state House of Assembly, AbdulLateef
AbdulHakeem, said he planned to install Close Circuit
Television cameras on major roads to tackle criminal
acts headlong in the state.
He said, "Our great promise is the prosperity of Lagos
and nobody will be left out. I will install CCTV cameras
on all the roads in Lagos in order to reduce crime rate.
Efforts will be intensified in the area of traffic
management on the inner roads, while additional fleets
of buses will be provided to augment the existing BRT
buses.
"We will create employment for our youths through
tourism, entertainment and sports. We have brought
good news to you, we are on Ejigbo playing ground and
the good news is that we will turn it to a stadium for
you."
A chieftain of the party, Chief Surakatu Lawal, advised
the Federal Government to be sincere in handling the
security challenge, which the Chairman of the
Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof.
Attahiru Jega, adduced for the postponement of the
elections.
Lawal urged the APC supporters to be strong in their
resolve to vote out the President Goodluck Jonathan-led
administration.
